Job Purpose: To lead the go to market strategy for Public Sector Commercial Banking, be accountable for the income statement, balance sheet and maintenance of clients’ relationships between Nedbank and its various government and public sector strategic stakeholders. To ensure the strategic positioning of Public Sector with internal and external stakeholders through appropriate relationships and customer financial solutions. Grow Commercial Banking revenue as well as the acquisition of new to bank high revenue public sector customers in order to enhance Nedbank’s reputation as a financial services provider and as a socio-economic development partner.
Job Responsibilities
• Drives the acquisition and retention strategy for Public Sector across the 3 spheres of government (i.e.
national, provincial and local government).
• Manages the Public Sector
profitability, in line with the Public Sector strategy, through the successful
development and implementation of short and long-term tactics, customer
acquisition, cross-selling, migration, retention, pricing and cost
optimisation.
• Develops and meets budgeted financial targets to achieve
sustainable economic profit for Public Sector. This includes setting and
managing annual financial budgets in conjunction with relevant areas (Assets,
Liabilities, Net-interest income, Non-interest revenue as well as cost
drivers).
• Contributed fully and consistently to meeting all Public Sector
functional targets and budgets.
• Responsible for the budget as it relates to
the cost centre.
• Public Sector results (both short and long term)
consistently in line with Nedbank Commercial Banking’s Exco expectations.
•Drives and assists in the development of pricing strategies for the Public
Sector and ensures alignment of pricing across offerings and products in line
with group pricing guidelines.
• Provides market related input to determine
pricing of offerings and products to ensure the required level of
profitability.
• Builds key relationships with Public Sector stakeholders
across the value chain to ensure appropriate solutions are available for the
sector.
• Designs and drives Marketing campaigns and works with Channel to
achieve acquisition and retention targets.
• Identifies sales opportunities
within the segment for other business areas/clusters.
• Reporting in a timeous,
accurate and compliant way, aligned to international law and best practice.
•Identifies business opportunities that contribute to the bottom line of the
public sector business with an emphasis on new to bank clients, liabilities and
lending.
• Creates a platform to provide capacity, training interventions and
guidance to public sector provincial managers.
• Drive the implementation of
innovative Public Sector solutions and continuous improvements to ensure
competitive advantage for the Group.
• Drive the required change intervention
to deliver on solutions implemented to ensure ROI for the enterprise.
• Keep abreast of new developments and best practice in strategy, business planning
and execution to ensure reciprocal returns for Nedbank.
• Produce, align and
monitor EE and Transformational plan with Group Strategy to ensure compliance
with the legislation, correcting any deviations.
• Ensure alignment and
achievement of the Public Sector value proposition and strategy to create a
competitive advantage.
• Ensure strategy planning cycles for the bank are met.
• Ensure relevant documentation is created to operationalize Public Sector
strategy and ensure business plan is within the context of the bank's strategic
framework.
• Ensure the implementation and monitoring of governance in the
Public Sector including proactive management of risk and compliance in the
running of the business.
• Provide appropriate leadership, guidance,
development and coaching to the team to achieve business objectives.
• Ensure team
is staffed with the right capabilities and competence to improve team
effectiveness. Professional Knowledge
• Knowledge of the following legislation,
as it relates to the Public Sector:
• Public Sector Public Finance Management
Act (PFMA)
• Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA)
• Any other relevant legal
framework and legislation applicable in the public sector
• Knowledge of
Commercial Banking and other bank’s products and services across segments
•Knowledge of competitor tactics, distribution channels and product offerings •
Financial management, budgeting and forecasting
Essential Qualifications - NQF
Level
• Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
• Professional
Qualifications/Honour’s Degree Preferred Qualification
• Postgraduate qualification

Level
• Minimum 10 years banking experience with specific focus on Public
Sector Banking within Commercial Banking (5 years+)
• A proven track record of
building and maintaining beneficial relationships with senior government
officials, business leaders and diverse stakeholders
